Everyone is aware of the damage caused to the skin by the incidence of UV rays. However, not everyone is aware that to maintain healthy and attractive skin, you have to use sunscreen every time you leave the house. Although all of these products share some basic characteristics in terms of benefits, they are not all of the same type or used in the same way. Pay attention to its particularities and the objectives you want to achieve to ensure that you are taking home a product tailored to your needs.

What types of sunscreens are there

The usual thing is to divide these cosmetic products into two large groups: Sunscreens with physical filters are those that protect from the sun using ingredients such as titanium dioxide or zinc oxide. They are called physical because that is how these ingredients work, as a physical but imperceptible barrier that bounces radiation off without it having the option of penetrating the skin. In addition to reflecting blue light, most of them have anti-inflammatory and astringent properties. Chemical sunscreens are currently the most popular and that is why they present a much more extensive variety. Unlike protectors with physical filters, these do absorb the sun's rays but neutralize them thanks to their special molecular chemical structure. Both offer sun protection against UVA or UVB rays and in some cases against both at the same time.

Does all skin need sunscreen?

Absolutely all, from the most resistant to the most sensitive, either on the face or the rest of the body. It is one of the first aspects that you must take into account: skin protection is an inescapable obligation if you want your epidermis to retain a healthy appearance and not age prematurely. Excess UV rays affect all skin equally. On the one hand, and although it seems contradictory, they are necessary so that the skin does not weaken. They are responsible for activating the cells that synthesize melanin and this is responsible for giving tone to the skin, which, in turn, helps to dissipate the sun's rays. What is the problem? That if there is an imbalance in this scheme and you receive an excess of UV rays, spots, burns and erythema appear and the skin ages much faster. For this reason, remember: the best way to block the negative part of the sun's rays is by applying these cosmetic products that work as filters and prevent excess radiation on the skin.
